Daddos day

Ok out of order but I had to put in a current event!

We had a great day of world soccer cup watching, "hockey training" (aka deven's hockey practice - promise to get to this post), left-overs, goonies, a fire log, and messing with our new phones.  Dev got Nick a new sounder's jersey and we framed a picture he colored with Nick on their first "after hockey pub trip". Kiddos went to bed on time and we've just been hanging out folding laundry.

Nothing special and an essential recovery day from the kiddo-free brewfest we attended on Friday night but it was the best.  The kiddos and I rely on Nick so much and I do not understand how we would make it with out him.

We love this daddo to the moon and back.

Oso Benefit Run

I blogged a while ago that I am doing a few things this summer that I'm super proud of and this is one of those so forgive the "me" blog.  I really hope the kiddos see these some day though.

So a few weeks after the terrible land slide that happened up here in Oso there was a benefit run to help raise proceeds for the victims and their family's.  Thankfully the extended family I have that live in Oso and nearby were not affected.  I decided that donating money was really one of the only way's I could help and why not participate in a run?  My work running buddy and I decided to do it together.

It was pretty crazy because it was one of the smallest runs I've done but there were definitely more people there than I expected.  For being put together in a couple weeks the run was very well organized and they even had a quarter for a tribute song to the victims.  At the end of the song, the quartet did a double stop note for each person killed in the slide.  Not going to lie, I basically had to start thinking about other things to keep it together and not start bawling.

The run itself was a really good one.  It was freezing but only for the first half mile.  I'd never run on gravel [which still seems odd] and there were actually quite a lot of hills that I don't think I was fully prepared to take.  My friend and I had decided to run it together since we'd been training together at work.  I was able to take the hills a tad better than her and ended up about a quarter mile ahead of her at one point.  I'm don't consider myself a competitive person with other people but I am VERY competitive with myself.  If I don't do what I consider to be my best and/or I compare to my previous runs poorly I get really disappointed.  So when I decided to run back to my friend after about a mile of being separated it was a pretty big deal for me mentally.  But I really wanted to finish with her and it would feel weird to do otherwise after all the hard work we'd been doing.

I can't quite give up the self competitiveness though so here are my phone results and the official results. :)  It was super awesome to finish with my friend and was a very memorable run on many levels.

Road Trippin'

Seriously we look like the a misfit bunch these days.  Nick and I no longer have the energy to make these kids as stylish as they used to look apparently.  We were on our way down to celebrate Nana's birthday and this is what we ended up with.

This wasn't from the same day but I thought I'd throw it in for a good example

Nick and I had our espresso and they had their hot cider (see previous post)

He always gets the best books and they are diving in to the bunch from the current batch

Cafe Johnston

If you need a fancy late, mocha, hot cocoa, hot apple cider or just a plain Americano please feel free to drop in to Café Johnston.  All xmas proceeds that when in to helping with our espresso machine purchase as been well utilized.  Starbucks no longer gets half our pay checks!!

Easter 2014

Yes, I am just this far behind on posting.  I have a list that I'm working from though so some day I'm hoping to be caught up.

This year the kiddos and I decorated eggs for the first time.  Sadly I can't seem to find any of the final product but we ended up using stickers and markers and crayons for some fun decorating.  I held off on the glitter...it was just going to be too much fun all at once! :)

Family pictures 2014

Mid April we were able to meet up with my friend Alisha and her husband Holland who own Some Like it Shot Photography.  Here is just a sample of the pure goodness that they produce.  We are still in the middle picking the best ones to order, which is difficult given their talent.  We are so happy they have moved back to NW!  I'm sure I'll be getting wallets and etc to inundate people with but in the mean time if you would like to see all the fun shots and/or order some for yourself visit the event site: http://somelikeitshotphotography.smugmug.com/event/Angela-Nicks-Favorite/wWjukXKRbroYc

Enjoy.

Family bike ride/jog partial fail

So back in April Nick and I got this brilliant idea that we would go on a jog/bike ride with the kiddos and Sam.  It was a hilarious endeavor to say the least.  We drove to one of the Centennial Trail parking lots about a mile from our house.  Tova was to ride on Nick's bike with a handy little kiddo chair device, Deven was to ride his own bike and I would jog along side with Sam.  I think we made it about a half mile south before it was absolutely necessary that we turn around.  Dev didn't quite have the hang of things and so kept steering off the path...into various ditches.  Furthermore, when ever Nick and Tova got too far away Sam would bark incessantly at a high pitch such that it was like I was hitting with a stick or something.  So I guess bottom line, we got out as a family but it was certainly walking that line of worth it / not worth it.  This is a familiar line we walk so perhaps rather than saying it was a partial fail...we can just call it a normal Sunday outing for this crazy family.
